This weekend is your last chance this year to visit the Royal Palace, one of the grandest buildings in Brussels. Next to the Parc de Bruxelles, this is where the royal family once lived but now serves as an office of sorts for the King. The Palace also hosts receptions and Heads of State, so there are some impressive rooms to see. I visited the Palace a few years ago and would recommend it for something to do on a wet Sunday afternoon.
It’s also the weekend to see the Fêtes de Bruegel. This is one of those strange Belgian traditions – grown men walking/dancing around with giant puppets on sticks. I know it sounds odd, but head down to the Marolles area on Saturday morning and follow the giants to the street fair and flea market on Rue Haute/Rue Blaes. And if you’re not that into puppets, go anyway. This is a great area to roam around on the weekends, with some great furniture and antique shops.
