The long week combined with the rainy weather yesterday evening meant that the husband and I were in need of a little comfort food. And neither one of us was very keen on venturing outside in said rain. Delivery to the rescue!
We’ve used Resto-in.be before with slightly mixed results but decided to give it another try. Resto-in is actually a French company delivering from 300 restaurants in Paris, Lille, Marseille, Lyon and Brussels.
There are 36 participating restaurants in Brussels, including Italian, Thai, Belgian, Indian, and Japanese, etc. When it comes to food that travels well (i.e. tastes similar to what you would receive in the restaurant) I would recommend sticking to Asian, Indian and Lebanese. We previously ordered a meal from Belgo Belge and the result was not great – lukewarm food, not great tasting and unattractive presentation.
So we went back to a safer solution – Thai food from Deuxieme Element. This place is always reliable, good value and most importantly, met the comfort food requirement. My go to dish is the chicken Pad Thai (#47 Kwetio Pad Kay on the menu). The husband went for yellow curry (#20 Keng Kali Kay) but inevitably ended up ‘sharing’ some of mine too. The portions are generous and tastes about the same reheated, so good for leftovers. This place is also a good pick if going to the movies – see post here.
Resto-in is relatively easy to use. You’ll need to set up an account on their website and then you can place your order online. I highly recommend paying via credit card online, otherwise you’ll need to have exact change for the delivery guy (I didn’t once which turned into a huge palaver). You can also order over the phone.
Resto-in charges slightly higher prices than in the restaurant (€12.50 vs €11.90 for the Pad Thai), as well as a €7 delivery charge on top. They do offer promotions from time to time sent to your email. Delivery time is about an hour so don’t leave it too late or you’ll be starving by the time the food arrives (also has happened to me).
Overall, a pretty good solution if you’re feeling lazy and hungry, especially on a dark, wet evening. Now I only need to burn off all the calories I consumed last night. Better get going on that gym membership…
Wishing everyone a happy weekend!
