Foodie Fridays – Britxos

Last night I made my way over to St Gilles for the opening of a unique, new foodie haven. Many in Brussels already know Alex from La Britannique for his catering and themed brunches held in his kitchen every weekend. He’s now hoping that you’ll discover his latest undertaking, Britxos.

Located on the corner of Rue de Savoie and Rue d’Albanie, Britxos is a cozy little space dedicated to innovative cooking and having a good time. The name Britxos comes from the words “British” and “Pintxos” (as tapas are called in the Basque country) and the concept is to offer bite-size sweet and savory snacks all day long.

Britxos will serve breakfast, lunch (to eat in or take-away), a selection of teas and cakes for afternoon tea, and a myriad of tapas to accompany after-work drinks. I enjoyed one of the La Britannique brunches a few months back, which included a spread of Alex’s interesting creations. And if the canapés we sampled last night are anything to go by, I’m guessing the food at Britxos will be just as delicious.

The walls are covered with chalkboard paint, decorated with fun sayings like “food will never be the same again” and the menu of the day that yesterday included creatively named tapas like Beijing, Bilbao and Blackpool. Alex and his team are also planning to host cooking classes in the basement kitchen and the café space is available to rent out for parties of up to 50 people.

Britxos officially opens on Monday 4 June just in time for after work drinks. You can stop by any day of the week for happy hour from 5 to 7pm for two-for-one cocktails. To celebrate the opening, Britxos will also offer 3 free tapas of your choice with every drink from 4 to 14 June (print out voucher here).

And if you can’t wait until Monday, stop by this weekend for Britxos inaugural brunch on Saturday (€20 per person for food and drinks) from 11am to 4pm or a street party on Sunday as of 2pm to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, complete with free samples of Yorkshire pudding, sausages, and fish and chips.

Bon appetit!

HI, My husband and I are coming to Brussels this week. Never been.
Which restaurants do you recommend? I guess you could call us foodies.
Rather stay clear of touristy places.
