Foodie Fridays – Bib Gourmand 2013

The Michelin Guide has recently released its new Bib Gourmand Benelux for 2013. I wrote about the 2012 Michelin Guide last year, which includes a listing of the 1, 2 and 3 star restaurants in Belgium. However, I find the Bib Gourmand a bit more useful, as it provides a great selection of affordable restaurants.

The restaurants chosen for the 2013 Bib Gourmand guide all offer a three-course meal (starter, main dish and dessert) for no more than €35. There’s a wide choice of types of cuisine, from Asian to French, and styles of restaurant, from small bistros to trendier locations.

This year’s guide includes 251 restaurants for the Benelux region, with 48 new listings. I’ve spotted some of my favorites in Brussels like Mamy Louise, one of my go to places for a weekend lunch.

The wonderful Japanese noodle bar in Ixelles, Kokuban, is also on the list. Thy have a good choice of ramen and udon noodles, and the gyoza dumplings are delicious.

Some of the new restaurants on the list that I would like to try include the Lebanese restaurant Maza’j in Auderghem (I LOVE Lebanese food), and the more traditional Brasserie de la Villa, a spin-off of Villa Lorraine.

Other Brussels restaurants in the guide: Bar Bik, La Belle Maraîchère, La Brasserie de Bruxelles, La Brouette, Le Coq en Pâte, Les Deux Maisons, French Kiss, Jardin de Pékin, JB, La Manufacture, De Maurice à Olivier, Ventre Saint Gris and Viva M’Boma.

The 2013 Bib Gourmand Benelux guide is available in bookstores around Brussels for €15.95.
